Melanin is the pigment which makes our skin tan and is produced by cells called melanocytes. Melanin synthesis usually only occurs when our bodies are exposed to UV light. The higher the melanin levels in the skin, the darker you can tan.

We do of course always recommend the use of sunscreen when spending any time in the sun. Apply sunscreen after you have applied your Melanoboost® Peptide Sun Tanning Oil.
Regular sun tan oils like coconut oil don't contain any significant active ingredients therefore don't boost melanin. When you apply regular coconut oil and lay in the sun for extended periods, it is the UV from the sun that stimulates melanin synthesis, not the oil. Coconut oils may benefit the skin with moisturising properties, but don't actually help to darken your tan. Prolonged sun exposure is also never advisable.
